Terre d’Oc was set up in 1995 following a meeting with François and Françoise Lemarchand the creators of Nature et Découvertes, one exquisite summer evening in the Cevennes. They wanted to introduce the ochres of Provence to the public through a collection of objects, Nature et Découvertes trusted them and they designed boxes of ochres, stencils, sundials, drawing pastels, a mushroom game, an introductory kit for tree-grafting, a garrigue rock-rose perfumed cicada.
 
Then in 1997 an idea came to light : a meeting between the Orient and Provence by marrying the perfumes of Grasse, essential oils from Provence to the oriental fumes of incense through a collection of home fragrances whose scents would stem from collective memory.
