Caring for sensitive skin through the seasons
As with all things in nature – our skin changes with the seasons.
Fluctuating temperatures, sun exposure and humidity levels all have to be adapted to and supported by your skincare products.
Failure to adapt to your skin’s changing needs can result in the skin becoming imbalanced – leading to increased sensitivity, dryness, irritation and breakouts.
Whatever the weather, achieving skin balance is the key to healthy skin.
There are many aspects to skin balance: balanced diet, balanced oil production and balanced pH.
It’s also important to be in tune with your skin’s external environment – that means making some seasonal skincare tweaks.
Throughout the summer months your skin needs a lighter moisturiser with fewer fatty oils, as thanks to higher humidity levels, the skin is more able to retain moisture.
During the warmer months, I use our light Geranium & Thistle Combination Skin Cream, but when the cold starts creeping in I always reach for our trusty Chamomile & Rosehip Sensitive Skin Cream.
My urticaria is more prone to flare-ups during the colder months, so I like to up the fatty, soothing oils in my moisturiser.
Many of our customers choose to switch to a slightly more nourishing moisturiser during the winter months.
Humidity levels are down so the air is literally drier – meaning you need to work with your skin to help support it.
For me, there is one product I rely on year-round, whatever the weather – our Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil.
It’s a brilliant multi-tasker and ultimate skin pick-me-up!
In winter when my skin is feeling parched from central heating or wind-beaten from the biting cold, I apply 2-3 drops at night.
During warmer months, it doubles up as a repairing and regenerating after-sun alone or when coupled with our Comfrey & Calendula Calming Body Cream.
