Makeup Through the Years - A Guide to What to Wear in Your Teens

Make Up Through The Years - Teens

Makeup can be a challenge, but I prefer to call it a lifelong learning process. Whether it’s mastering that flawless cat eye with a liquid liner or finding the perfect shade of lipstick that miraculously goes well with everything you wear, these things take time. But luckily for you, they are not obligatory life skills.

However, for those who want to submerge themselves in the do’s and don’ts of makeup and have the inclination to learn how to choose makeup that both suits you and is age appropriate, we have created this series of articles about Makeup Through the Years to compliment our series on Skincare Through the Years

Makeup in your Teens - The Breakdown

Most teenagers don’t care too much about actual makeup yet. Which is a good thing, because we really don’t want them to set unrealistic beauty standards at a young age. But when you’re young and carefree and all about exploring the world, it can be really fun to start experimenting with funky nail polishes and bright purple or blue eyeshadow. Who hasn’t raided their mother’s makeup drawer and accidentally used (ruined) the most expensive lipstick in there to try on their dolls or their face? It’s a rite of passage into womanhood!

Makeup becomes more of an interest when girls hit mid teens; most keep it simple with concealer  for blemishes and mascara to accentuate lashes. Nail polish is another favourite with this crowd, a reasonable inexpensive way to experiment with colour and add some pizzaz to a look without breaking the bank.

The main concern at this age for all but the lucky few will be covering up spots and blemishes. Most teenagers will start to use some kind of concealer, foundation or a BB or CC cream. Our Best Beauty Buys for teenagers focus on getting rid of shine and mattifying skin without clogging up your pores. We’ve also included a tinted lip balm because lip balm is something you use at any age and the tinted ones give you naturally tinted and healthy looking lips without the heaviness of a lipstick or gloss.
