Q&A with Kim D'Amato Founder of Priti NYC

The idea behind Priti NYC came alive during her pregnancy. Kim made a conscious effort to switch to organic foods and health products, yet couldn't seem to find a way to beautify herself in the same natural manner.

In 2005, Kim launched Priti NYC with one simple mission: to support organic farmers and to decrease the amount of chemicals poisoning the Earth and it's inhabitants - one manicure at a time.

Here are Lucy Rose, we were lucky enough to put some questions to Kim:

LR: What are the origins of Priti NYC products and what led to  the brand being created?

KD: In 2004 I opened the first organic spa in nyc, from the base of the spa we built the product line for in spa use as i could not find a product i thought was clean enough and it grew from there.

LR: What makes Priti NYC different to other nail care and polish brands?

KD: We were the pioneers of the 3 free brand and now we are a 5 free brand, which means no camphor, no dbp , no toluene, no formaldehyde, no formaldehyde resin. We are vegan and do not test on animals. The polish also has a uv inhibitor as many people are not aware that skin care happens needs to happen on the nails too.

We are also the pioneer of the soy nail remover. I use essential oils in mine for there healing and the antifungal properties. It is 100 percent biodegradable, non toxic and non  flammable.

LR: What does the future hold for Priti NYC in the UK with regards to new products etc?

KD: We hope to build the brand in the UK. There are not many small indie brands in the UK as the scene is being dominated by conglomerates such as L'oreal, etc. It seems for smaller brands there is a big problem in the UK with the big department stores asking to provide thousands of dollars of free product and to pay to be on the shelves which would bankrupt a small company.

I would like to find a way to help smaller brands exist somehow over there, so somehow i intend to try to forge ahead in that challenge.

We would like to thank Kim for taking the time to answer our questions.
